We Participated in Kuty Festivals

Natick, Massachusetts.  I will now trouble you with these lines. You see, my good friend invited me to write something for our dear OBRANA, which we all wait for and read with joy so that we know what is happening and what we are experiencing.

My dear Kuty friends, I want to give you some sad news. We have lost one of our good readers, Beta Kovar. She already left us on September 2. Heavenly Father called her. She was operated on, but alas her condition worsened in the morning even though she had good care.  They say there is no medicine for death. What God does is all good.

This past summer in June we had a visit from brother's son Lenhart Puskac with his wife Anicka from Chicago. We were very happy that they came for a visit. They stayed for a week. They are very nice people. Let us wish them good health. Write something also for OBRANA.

When I mention Chicago I thank Hermine Vlk for remembering me in SLOVENSKA OBRANA, and also Rudolf Ondris. Just write, dear countrymen. We look forward to hearing something about one another and how things are going. We are getting old. The years fly by like water, and our strength. Let us stay well.

We can be thankful to our Kutcan, A. Palkovic that he writes such nice letters. All our good readers look forward to this. Everyone has noticed that he has a good memory. Everything that he writes is the truth. He writes nicely about Sastin soup and also the good cucumbers. They are really delicious.

There was good soil for cucumbers in Smolinsky. The women went there when they wanted to chat. We didn't walk there to talk. We had there an aunt by the name of  Gofrenda. They went there to sew bridal bonnets. Possibly the older people from Smolinske will remember that. I walked there with my late mother. 

You don't see Smolinske because it is in such a valley. It is possible only to see the church tower. So, dear Anthony when you can remember everything how the women baked outside and roasted sausage by the Kuty church. When was the fair? I remember this well, how we waited for this. They had such good cakes and bread. When someone bought them, they immediately roasted them . They added grease. Now we have such dear memories. So, dear Anthony, write to us. May God keep you well and strong.

As you know, people value the OBRANA. And so does Stefan Svec. He works everyday and still writes two nice writings about his experiences. How nice he writes about the Cachticky Castle. He also writes nicely about Svatjansky_Silnica. Really, we people from Kuty many times walked to Austria to work. In the spring, when the Morava River overflowed, we could not go through Cierne Pole and so had to go through Svaty Jan and Sekule, which took us more than two hours. When we went through Cierne Pole we were already almost home. How many time did we have to wade up to our knees in the water. This Silnica is a nice road. It is beautiful and straight as a candle.

What has happened with Helena Baranek? She promised that she would write more in SLOVENSKA OBRANA. Perhaps in next issue. I like SLOVENSKA OBRANA. I look forward to it.

Still I want to write how were at the Kuty festival in Johnstown, New York. Ludwik and Beta Zubalik came to Natick from Schenectady. Their son took them in their new auto. They asked me whether I would go with them to my sister Josephina in Schenectady. Perhaps I surprised them. I was immediatley ready to go.
On the next morning at 8:00 we were on the road and after dinner were in the city. My sister was really surprised. We were happy to be together. Sister has a nice family. All are good to her. She also had good grandchildren. May they all stay healthy.

Afterwards me and my sister left for Johnstown to visit brother Joseph who was not feeling well. He had a stomach aliment. When our friends learned that we were with my brother, Edward Svec invited us to supper. His wife Maria prepared a delicious meal. They are dear people. Afterwards they invited us to the Kuty festival. There was my friend Anka Pavelok, also from Natick. She was happy to see us. When we arrived in the hall, they were already singing and merrymaking. The tables were full of delicacies of all sorts.

We were happy to greet also the new pastor. Simek already has written all about this.
We found our dear friends Ignac Kubina and his wife, Rozinka, and Jan Jurica and his wife. Afterwards we went to look for Anthony Palkovic and his wife Amalia. All were friendly to us and treated us well. As all good people, they subscribe to SLOVENSRA OBRANA and everyone is satisfied with it. May God reward them for their respect.

I send greetings to all friends of the people of Kuty and Brodske (?), and also all the staff of SLOVENSKA OBRANA.
